Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare for work
- Job requirements are determined from workplace instructions
- Preparation information is accessed and interpreted
- Vehicle or component is inspected to identify substrate paint film builds
- Materials are selected and inspected for quality
- Hazards associated with the work are identified and risks are managed
- Refinishing tools and equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) are selected and checked for serviceability
- Work is planned to identify vehicle substrate preparation methods, minimise waste, and prevent damage to vehicle
- Remove surface rust and apply primers
- Surface rust and scale are removed from substrate using approved methods, materials and equipment and according to workplace procedures and safety and environmental requirements
- Substrate components affected by application processes are protected or removed without causing damage to vehicle or components
- Surfaces to be painted are cleaned and contaminants are removed
- Primers and primer surfaces are applied using approved methods, materials and equipment
- Prepare primed and sealed surface for refinishing
- Complete work processes
- Final inspection is made to ensure work meets workplace expectations and prepared surface is presented ready for refinishing
- Work area is cleaned, waste and non-recyclable materials are disposed of, and recyclable material is collected and stored
- Tools and equipment are checked, reported if faulty, and stored according to workplace procedures
